What is a divan bed?

A divan bed consists of a divan base and matching mattress. The base acts as a platform for the mattress and traditionally contains drawers for storage. They often have wheels, making divans one of the easiest beds to move around your bedroom. Some divan beds also have headboards attached, all of our divan bases are compatible with our range of headboards.

Divan beds with storage

Divan beds and bases usually have the option to come with drawers or an ottoman storage facility. Divan beds with drawers offer 2 drawers or 4 drawers. A double divan with four drawers will either have 4 equal sized drawers, or two sets of different sizes.

If you opt for a single divan bed but want drawers, you'll only be access to the drawers from one side.

An ottoman bed base lifts up from the bottom, giving you the entire space beneath your mattress to use as storage.

What types of divan base are available?

Divan bases come in two styles – platform and sprung top. Platform bases have a solid panel top which offers firm support and a sturdy base for your mattress. A sprung divan base has built in springs to offer a more cushioned and softer base for your mattress.

Does a divan bed come with a mattress?

If you choose a divan bed, it will come with a mattress. If you don't need a mattress, simply choose a divan base. Bases are more suitable if you already have a mattress but if you haven't changed your divan mattress in the past 8 years, it's recommended to get a new one.

Divan bed sets are available with both pocket spring or traditional spring mattresses. If you'd prefer a memory foam divan bed, buy the base and memory foam mattress separately.

What size divan base should I get?

Our divan sizes start from small single which are 2'6 wide, up to spacious super king divans with a mattress around 6'0 wide. We also offer a range of double divan bed bases which are roughly 4'6 wide.

Do divan beds take up lots of space?

Divan beds don't take up as much room as most other styles. They are the same depth and width as the mattress that goes on them. This differs to other frames where the mattress sits inside with the frame around it. Do divan beds break easily?

All divans have to conform to trading standards which ensures they're more than stable. You can also join two single divans together to create a double, These will remain sturdy, especially if you use the right size bedding as this will ensure maximum tension keeping the mattresses together.
